The Dare to Dream Podcast Episode 24: How Meditating On Our Mortality Gives Life Profound Meaning

Memento Mori is a Latin phrase that means “Remember that you must die.”

The phrase has its origins in ancient Rome, where it is believed that slaves would accompany generals on victory parades and whisper these words to remind the generals of their mortality. It was a measure to prevent the successful war heroes from being consumed by hubris (excessive pride and self-confidence).

In this episode, we discuss how thinking about our own death on a daily basis truly leads to a more meaningful way of life; pondering the fact that any day could be our last makes us cherish what time we have.

Imagine a world in which everyone treated each interaction as if it could be their last. In this scenario, what would you say to a loved one? A stranger? A best friend? What are you waiting for? Instead of dismissing the fact, the truth is, today could be your last day.

What, then, will you do with it? Who will you tell you love them? What dream will you embark on? What will you do to foster a sense of peace and joy, no matter what it is you’re doing?

This episode is full of love and made both of us entirely grateful for every second we have on this planet. We sincerely hope it can do the same for you. “Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what’s left, and live it properly.” – Marcus Aurelius
