simple pleasures

i think about my plants a lot
but plants seem to do well
when you don’t think about them

lying in the grass
looking up at the trees + sky
trees so green
sky so blue
when wondering about my plants
i think about how trees thrive
unkempt
showered by haphazard rain

had a conversation
with a man at the park
he said my tattoo
reminded him of rilke
when most people ask i try to explain
but this time
i didn’t
and he understood

he told me there were bees
hiding in the flowers
during the downpour
around the corner were milky white
flowers
it would behoove me to
go act like a bee
stick my face in the flowers
i did and it smelled like chamomile
the park looked like an impressionist painting
people on the hill like beautiful stone
statues
simple pleasures mean
more than anything
if it was my last day
i think i’d spend it in this way
what would you do?
what would you say?

sunset on the roof of the russian baths
part of an eclectic crew
this is what i love
this is what i do

icy water
+ melting away
listening to olive branches
thwack against skin
if this were my last day
i’d take out my headphones
listen to the world
and what it had to say
