Abyss of Light

Not a pause or escape
Or a chapter out of touch
But what I want my life to be
A continual straying
From what we call normality
Is this the point of living?
Dying inside but we call it reality;
Longing inside with nobody
To confide in that
We silently ache
Long to break from the plan
With an adventure —
A meaningful fucking
Adventure

Why are we here if not
For romantic adventures
Where we get to know another human
For a moment in time
They stay with you, woven,
Your spirits
Entwine and then
Gradually untangle because life;
And it hurts
As now you know the
Potential fire in your heart
That lights aglow
By something out there
The fire you share
Gives meaning to everything
Feelings, perception, normality
Incandescent — and it burns away

I like this girl
Captivated by her eyes
Into which I gaze
Our noses touch
Sunlight falls upon her face
And illuminates an
Ocean of sandy freckles

I pass her in the closet
Putting things away
We brush upon each other and kiss
In the hallway
I hardly know her yet can feel
Her depth in the morning her
Eyes are closed in the
Pale blue sunlight of
The room where I lay awake
What is she thinking?
Dreaming of —
What’s in her head?
She’s asleep
But is she lying there
With her eyes
Closed and her mind
Running like me?

Lost between the rows
Of a dusty bookstore
From these pages I’ve learned
Without risk there’s
No potential
Looking for one another —
Ourselves —
Amongst beautiful stories
We read as kids

Been on my own
Stalking the jungle of my dreams
Through otherworldly city streets
Seeking light in the
Darkness of myself and
The corners of our world;
Stars have aligned
Guiding me toward
The moon in her eyes
On which I’ll walk
No longer alone
With somebody to hold
When nights get
Cold and thoughts run
Hot and tears fall
Warm and autumn rain
Stirs me in my sleep
The world is shaking —
My heart
Burns through the atmosphere
I thought I knew

When paths in life diverge
How natural
How ancient to long for their soul
To once more feel their spirit roar
To want to feel them close
Why are we alive
If not to find the spirit which
We may soar beside
Still paths diverge, because life —
We have to let them go
We journey alone when
They’re out there dreaming —
Their heart beating
Why are we here
If not to take a chance
So paths may meet lost in mystery
Not knowing where we’re going
But we grasp each other’s hand
And perhaps then
We go where neither
Of us could before understand

The world becomes
Imbued with the sweetness of
Their laugh and the
Softness of their skin the
Nuance of their smile
We can’t know where
These connections might go
Only certainty is they’ll
Go nowhere if we don’t
Leave what we know
Break free from the
Darkness of normality
Bet on you, him, her we;
Step into the destructive terrifying
Miraculous never-ending
Abyss of light we desperately crave
Called love
