A day by the sea in the rain // Futami Okitama jinja & Ise Jingu Geku, Mie Prefecture
Decided in the morning that I’d go
What I’d find I couldn’t know on the other
Side of the peninsula;
A memory of waves in Ise,
My heart open on the train
Writing of my past.
On the coast I met a friend
Excited by emerald stones
And words like cleansing;
We saw a couple of ducks,
She said ducks are never alone.
I thought, damn straight.
Soul alive black rocks
Soft puddles splashed by
Slow steps
Revived by the sea.
A dark green forest,
Misty hills held by the
Somber sky
Where water falls through
Glistening trees
The sound of rain’s within you.
Stay light
Even if it hurts
Fresh air inhaling love
And letting go.
The forest darkens
Golden light thickens
Reverence for the world,
For life itself,
And the journey we’re on.
Don’t let life get you down.
Put your hand on your heart and
Feel the ocean, feel the trees
Feel the wind and the waves and your
Strength; feel your heart burn.
Feel what it means to be alive
As if for the first time.
